Avoid drugs and alcohol, as they can increase stress. Listening to or playing music is a good way to relieve stress because it can distract the mind, reduce muscle tension and lower stress hormones. Turn up the volume and let your mind be absorbed by the music. If new stressors hinder your ability to cope, or if self-care measures simply don't alleviate stress, you may need to seek reinforcement in the form of therapy or counseling.
